Brazil’s once-sizzling economy has cooled this year, but the long-term outlook is sunny. With a growing middle class, healthy banking system, stable government, abundant natural resources and globally-focused companies, the world’s seventh-largest economy has become a beacon for foreign capital and the engine of regional growth. Gone are the days of serial economic and political crises, hyperinflation and crippling corruption. Today Brazil is debating whether to bail out the tottering economies of Europe, further proof, as if any were needed, of its muscular arrival on the world stage.
We can see from a monthly chart EWZ has been in a trading range between $79 and $49 since 2009.
We have plotted on the chart the key trendline long-term investors are watching for a potential ‘breakout’.
What happens if they break it and get trapped?
